Popeye Village (officially Sweethaven Village) is the original film set from 1980, built for the movie "Popeye" starring Robin Williams in the title role and Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl. The Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney production erected 19 wooden buildings in Anchor Bay on Malta's northern coast.
After filming wrapped, the sets were to be dismantled, but the Maltese government decided to preserve them as a tourist attraction. Today Popeye Village is an amusement park with actors dressed as cartoon characters, a film museum, boat rides around the bay, water trampolines, and shows. It is one of Malta's most popular family attractions.
Anchor Bay itself is beautiful regardless of the park: turquoise water, rocky cliffs, and open sea views. You can swim in the bay for an extra fee or free of charge from rocks outside the park (on the bay's western side).
Practical tip: Entry EUR 19 adults, EUR 15 children (2026, includes boat ride and attractions). Open year-round. Busy in summer, so come early. 10 minutes by car from Mellieha. The view of the village from the cliff above (free) is as good as from inside.
