Food with an interesting History! 🤔 Did you know the story of Imboljuta? 😳 The Maltese islands are where history and traditions collide, and the Christmas market in Rabat is no different. Malta was the most bombed country on Earth during WW2, and most of the population had to live underground and hide during the many daily air raids. This meant food and water were scarce and had to be rationed. There was however an exception on Christmas Eve, where locals would get dried fruits, nuts or sweets (usually from Sicily) and create a special treat for the children called 'Imboljuta'. It was a much needed way for the country to try to make something big, from something very little. A tradition that is still alive to this day.
